Happy Fall!

What a beautiful fall day we had on Wednesday! It was the perfect day to learn about the four seasons and what is happening in nature as we transition from summer to fall. After our brisk morning hike, we gathered at the stone story circle to discuss the four seasons and to begin our "Tree of Seasons" project.
They did such a great job decorating the portion of the tree representing Fall.
In addition to shorter days and lower temperatures, the group noticed that the leaves were changing colors in the fall and they were beginning to drop from the trees. We collected a bunch of different leaves and after examining their textures, thickness, color, and shape they sorted into different categories.
After our warm snack of homemade oatmeal with brown sugar and cinnamon warmed our bellies we spent some time time writing in our journals and doing some leaf rubbings.
It was a fantastic Autumn morning!
See you next week!

Our First Day of Class!

I am so excited to announce that we officially kicked off our weekly Kindergarten Enrichment program yesterday! Our first class was all about using our five senses to explore nature. Using sensory bags and smell canisters, we explored our sense of sight, touch, hearing, and smell. We even used our sense of taste to enjoy our morning snack!

After snack we went on a sensory scavenger hunt to put our senses to the test. On the hike we found slimy slugs and millipedes under logs. We stopped to smell the sweet aroma of flowers and listen to the songs of birds. We even found a large fuzzy caterpillar.
After finishing our scavenger hunt hike, we stopped at Riverbend's Stone Story Circle and spent some time writing in our journals about our morning's discoveries.
What a great first day of class!
